Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat Festival is held on the fifth month on the fifth day on the lunar calendar, which falls in the period of May 25th -July 24th. The story behind this outstanding festival revolves around a poet named Qu Yuan, living in the Warring States period. Back then, China was divided into smaller states which were ruled by various royals. Qu Yuan worked as a high officer as well as wrote numerous works to show the dedication and devotion to his country. After he was exiled, he drowned himself in the Milou river because he couldn’t bear to see his

water, so the fish would eat that instead of his body.

During the dragon boat festival, there is the tradition of having dragon boat races across rivers and lakes. The wooden boats are decorated in the

country invaded and conquered. After hearing the news of Qu Yuan jumping in the river, locals, who thought he had died with honor, tried to find his body but didn't. So, they decided to throw cooked
