This year’s winning chefs and awarded dishes were • • • • • A fun afternoon was enjoyed by all where attendees were able to ‘Come Hungry & Leave Fulfilled’ knowing that 100% of the event proceeds will support local PACE girls. 6 GET FAMILIAR WITH PACE CENTER FOR GIRLS: PACE Center for Girls Escambia-Santa Rosa is a gender- responsive prevention, diversion and early intervention program serving at-risk middle and high school girls, ages 11-18, in our community. Our program model has been nationally recognized for reducing recidivism and improving school success, employment and self-sufficien- cy amongst girls. At PACE, girls receive academic instruction paired with individualized counseling, life PACE Center for Girls serves girls at their points of greatest vulnerability. The common thread among our girls is a history of trauma caused by sexual abuse, physical abuse, family instability, bullying, or poverty - and being told far too often that they are hopeless. The PACE Center for Girls offers three unique year- round programs designed to help teenage girls who are having trouble at home or at school: PACE DAY Program A gender-responsive, alternative education and counsel- ing program featuring a self-paced curriculum, individu- alized attention and individual, group and family counseling sessions designed to meet the needs of the girl and her family. Girls attend school at PACE year-round, Mon-Fri from 8:30am – 2:30pm, and may also benefit from a year-round afterschool program where they can accelerate their learning and development. GED Preparatory Program An accelerated program offering intensive remediation and preparation for completion of the GED while receiving the social services component of the PACE Day Program. The in-house GED program also provides girls with one-on-one and small group instruction as well as all materials and testing for the 4 GED subject areas. REACH Program A therapeutic prevention program designed to serve girls not enrolled in the PACE Day Program, but who attend school elsewhere. Featuring highly flexible, mobile services designed to meet the girl where she is – at her school, home or in the community – PACE Reach also offers an afterschool enrichment lab and academic assistance and goal setting to help girls achieve and grow. PACE Reach also features vocational empowerment, care management and therapy sessions. There is no cost to the girl or her family for any of PACE’s programs. Funding sources are comprised of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, Escambia County School Board, Santa Rosa County School Board, Pensacola State College, local foundations and private donations. PACE enables young women to complete their education, build self-esteem and develop personal, social and family relationship skills. PACE students learn to take responsi- bility for their actions, to make informed and positive decisions, and to become independent and self-reliant citizens. Nearly 3,000 girls have been transformed by PACE Escambia – Santa Rosa since our doors opened in 1994. 7
