Nowadays books plays and films are very popular. People from all ages watch them when there's no type of age control. but is it fair to censor because parents don't take control of what their child is watching?
Put yourself in the position of a parent; would you let children read any book, see any film? Books and plays should definitely be censored. First of all, children need protection and not all parents are mature enough to decide what is good for them, This results in kids which are out of control and watch films or read books which aren’t allowed for their ages, as they don´t have adult supervision.
Secondly, it is said that censorship is good for society as a whole, that it is a law for the common good. The majority of books, plays and films are not works of art, so censoring doesn't mean suspending art. People nowadays tend to equate artistic and pornographic; they don't really know what art means.
Books play and films should be censored under common law not under a special censorship code. Although there should be strict laws that forbid children buying books are watching films that aren't suitable for their age, by forbidding or censoring we would not be following the ideals of democracy.
Moreover, censorship does not prevent pornography. The market always exists and is exploited whether there is a censor or not; people like going against the rules and doing forbidden things. Then we must realize that censor do not distinguish between works of art and others. This means that any piece of art could be eliminated without realizing its importance and its contribution to culture.
Things like this can never happen in the society free from censorship and full of democracy.
In my opinion, books , plays and films shouldn't be censored .If parents don't pay enough attention to their children and don't know how to control them, it is their fault. Other people shouldn't pay for that. What is more, I think that banning books has the effect of drawing attention to them and vastly increasing sales so by censoring we won't be following the ideals of democracy and we would be contributing to increasing sales and film views.
