anaging your time does not cost you anything, but not managing it

costs you plenty. As a small business owner, your time is one of your most precious commodities and should be treated as such. Unfortunately, so many owners do not take that into consideration, or they do but are at a loss as how to effectively manage their time. As a virtual assistant, it’s my job to reduce the overwhelm and stress many business owners feel and I do that by doing work for them on their behalf. While this does free up their time, their time management skills don’t just stop there. In fact, that is only the beginning and I’ll explain how…

5 Simple Ways Business Owners Can Manage Time Better

Track Your Time – over a week, record all the work you do and how long it takes you. This will give you something to measure your

improvements against as well as showing you in black and white where your time is being used up. Use this record to identify areas where you are

spending more time that you want and then identify jobs which you could delegate as well. A few great online time trackers include toggl, My Hours and TrackingTime.

Use a ‘To Do’ List – Every morning, write a to do list of the tasks you must accomplish during the day. When other work comes in,

it is not on the list and not an absolute emergency, don’t do it. Instead book it in for another day and let yourself achieve your planned tasks first.

Schedule for Interruptions – they’re going to happen. Employees, customers, clients and even your family are going to throw you a

curve ball at some stage every day. Set aside a few minutes each day to deal with jobs you had not planned on doing.
