Making gifts to give to other people, or for guests coming tonight for drinks? Need something home baked that shows you made some ‘special effort’. Let’s go with creating some truffles, or biscuit balls. (Since you’re creating these biscuits, we’ll say you get naming rights of what you’d like to call them!). A friend names her chocolate treats from this recipe ‘Reindeer Balls’….

Here’s the basic recipe to begin:

Melt three tablespoons of butter, with half a tin of condensed milk, until butter is melted. Don’t overheat. Set aside, ready for when you throw in the crushed biscuits …

Find and finely crush a packet of plain biscuits. Wine, Arrowroot or Malt biscuits are fine. Or pop roughly broken biscuits into blender and grind to breadcrumb consistency. Don’t overgrind to a powder, you just want a nice crumbly texture.

Next, find some fruit or flavourings to use. (You’re going to put some flavour into the biscuit balls). Some options:

Two tablespoons of cocoa, and a generous handful of raisins. (Or use sultanas. Or Chopped cherries. Dried cranberries or mixed fruit mixtures are fine, too.) Throw the biscuit crumbs, with the cocoa powder and your chosen fruit selection into this pot of melted butter and condensed milk, and mix well.
