Christmas Rush
The Christmas rush… most of us in business know ALL about it and it’s barely December!
If your business is super busy - maybe it is even the busiest time of your year, you might find it hard to enjoy it.
Yes, you love what you do but this might be adding pressure that does take a little bit of the joy out of it. The time pressure - the stress of getting items to the customer on time, but you can’t control how fast or slow post is at this time of the year…
Here’s some tips to survive the Christmas rush for businesses.
PLAN & SCHEDULE
It really works; plan when and how you will do what. You might feel like you are wasting half an hour on planning but you will see; you will GAIN time.
How? Well not just because when you have a schedule - a plan - you know what to do and there is less procrastinating. But also; you will start to see where you can improve your process and how you could possibly do things differently to save time.
You’ll also feel more in control with a clear plan - as you know what you are doing and have a clear head - which helps with creating.
OUTSOURCE
It’s hard - I know - to give parts of your business to others but especially in the REALLY busy times it is vital you clear space in your head AND get the work done that you need done.
You can do this while still feeling completely in control! It doesn’t have to cost the world either… social media for example…; Do you thrive on one platform but don’t have time for another? Get someone in to take your content from your favourite and have them schedule it in your other with a 2-3 week delay. That way you know what the content will be.
Obviously the ‘this needs to go out now’ type content you can still do yourself of course AND I would never suggest to have the EXACT same content on all your social media at the same time...
But how awesome would it be to know that certain times of the day are just covered and you don’t have to do anything on them?
Another great idea is to get someone in that does all BASIC admin jobs for you - maybe they can even answer all the most basic questions your customers are asking? You know… the ‘how much is this item?’ - ‘Please check our website here’ situations...
How much time would you save with JUST that?!
ALLOW FREE TIME
Take an hour off - go to bed early REGULARLY. Again, you might feel you lose time… but if you allow yourself to do that, you will see you can do more in the time you have to work.
Taking time for just you, allows your brain to recharge - contantly focusing on the same thing often makes you lose sight of the overall picture.
For the holidays themselves; plan and communicate clearly with your customers the days you will not be working - it is easier when you have been really clear up front!
REMOVE GUILT
It is so normal for business owners to feel guilty and especially women feel this - we somehow feel that we have to be with our kids every minute they have us around.
Don’t get me wrong; I know about the guilt, I feel it too.
But you know what - I then instantly tell myself too that my kids learn from me; by them seeing me work at home they learn you have to work REALLY hard if you want to achieve things that m
ake you happy.
Thing is too; it is not going to be like this forever - slower times will come too and then you can do LOADS of fun things with them - you know?
And once our businesses just FLY and take off - well then we can employ people that do all the work FOR us and we can just go hang out on a beach somewhere!
