Santa Clarita’s normal hustle and bustle was brought
to a screeching halt on Friday July 22nd by the sudden start and rage, in Sand Canyon, of the Sand fire
that eventually destroyed over 41,000 acres, burned
18 homes and caused the death of one person. About
20,000 people faced mandatory evacuations as the
fire threatened thousands of homes throughout Santa Clarita and beyond. Over 1,500 fire fighters joined
the fight and after an exhausting and challenging
week, the fire was 100% contained. The cause of the
fire is under investigation.
Our Valley salutes the heroes of this disaster: fire fighters, support staffs and ordinary citizens who opened
their hearts, and sometimes their homes, to aid the
victims.
