A New Day
October 1 marked a
new day for big changes
locally and across the
state in healthcare.
The Most Visible Change
EMHS (Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems) became
Northern Light Health on October 1, a significant
branding change that has cascaded across the state as
all nine of its member hospitals and numerous other
affiliated organizations also underwent a brand change
to better reflect the progressive, integrated healthcare
system serving Maine.
“The name EMHS has gotten us to where we are today,
but it doesn’t shine a light on who we are becoming
and our future,” says Jonathan Hutter, director of
brand and marketing. “Most significantly, ‘Eastern
Maine’ doesn’t describe us anymore. We are the
provider with the broadest reach across the state of
Maine.”
The statewide system includes 124 sites of care, nine
hospitals, eight nursing home/retirement communities,
statewide homecare and hospice, and ground/air emer-
gency transport. Approximately 12,000 employees and
1,400 active providers work under the system umbrella
across the state.
