Autumn is often a time for collecting . As we collect our memories from this summer , we reflect on the fact that we did not have massive forest fires like the southwest of United States and Canada . WE were not on tornado watch nor did we suffer the effects of hurricanes . We are fortunate to have four seasons which provide time for a multitude of activities . We can dress in layers to protect ourselves from the cold in January without worrying about temperatures exceeding 100 degrees in the summer .
In addition to the colors and weather , we are fortunate to live in an area where people are thoughtful and friendly . We all laughed when a visitor told us his story about traffic stopping to let them cross the street without a walk sign and red traffic light . The norm for us was a source of amazement for them .
Each year , we are reminded how open and accepting area residents are by visitors . The pace of life is not hectic . You can drive 50-60 miles in an hour , even in heavy traffic . Getting from one end of town to the other is easily accomplished and you will usually receive a smile and wave along the way . Central Aroostook may not have multiple shopping centers , theaters and all the activities found in large cities , but we do have time to enjoy leisure , see family and friends and take time to reflect and collect . There are so many opportunities for employment here , we always have opportunities for doctors , lawyers , clerks , general labor and many other occupations .
