Our Maine Street's Aroostook Issue 32 : Spring 2017 | Page 25
Prior to the show, my second
grade students work hand in hand
with their parents to design one-of-a-
kind costumes fashioned primarily out
of recycled materials such as cardboard
boxes, paper, paints, and even old
clothes and toys that might otherwise
get thrown into the trash. During this
unique, red carpet event students grace
the runway showcasing their one of
a kind fashion ideas while paparazzi,
(local photographers, news media
sources, and a videographer) capture
their every move. Th eater lights pulse,
illuminate, and refl ect off the night’s
most jeweled and shimmering fashions
as spectators are awed by their cutting-
edge ensembles. Th ese inspiring young
stars strut their way down the red
carpet to upbeat music while our host
and MC presenter Davis Cyr, describes
their fashions in intricate detail. Th e
night is fi lled with excitement and one
of a kind high fashion. It truly is an
electrifying experience for my students,
and we do it all in honor of our Earth!
My mission for this project is to
provoke and inspire change, after all I
want my students to gain the experience
and knowledge needed to better
understand and respect the world they
live in. My hope is that my students
will become more environmentally
conscious and take immediate action
in preserving our world’s most precious
resources. I believe that with a bit of
education and awareness, this change
will inspire others to do the same.
