SECOND YEAR PARTNERS ANNOUNCED FOR CITY DEAL
Last year, the‘ Working Together’ pilot project aimed to increase employment opportunities for 2,800 unemployed people in the Black Country.
Now entering it’ s second year, the project has four new business partners to help support local people who need to brush up on their skills or search for employment. The partners will also team up with other experts to offer advice on areas such as managing money and healthy living.
Working Together provides one-to-one support, giving those affected by unemployment an opportunity to get back into the work.
Last year, Working Together provided support to over 700 people in the Black Country and helped 70 people into work. The project currently operates in Princes End, Darlaston South, Bilston East and St Thomas’ s( Dudley).
Jacki Lakin, City Deal Project Director, said:“ This year we have extended our reach to also include those who privately rent. This is great news for the programme and means we can support lots more people in the four areas.”
The new delivery partners are Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council, Walsall Adult & Community College and Bilston Resource Centre.

Be upfront
If you’ ve been out of work for a long time, it’ s vital to explain why to employers. So whether you’ ve brought up a family, felt unwell, went travelling or simply been unlucky, just be honest.
|
Consider temping
This is often a good way of getting a foot in the door and securing a permanent post later on. It’ s also an easy way to network and make contacts, which can be beneficial in the future.
|
Get in the habit
Get used to working with other people and at someone else’ s pace. Voluntary work will get you back in the habit of being at a certain place at a certain time- an essential skill for work.
|
Stay current
Reading industry trade publications will help you stay current, so you understand the relevant practices and latest trends, which shows potential employers you’ re ahead of the game.
