2015 was the 9th year of Our House’s summer youth program. It was
the second summer in our new Children’s Center, and because of the
increased space a record 120 youth were able to participate. The program
was offered free-of-charge enabling all children to participate, with a
special focus on meeting the needs of homeless and near-homeless children.
Unlike many summer camps that give kids a week or two of programming,
the camp at Our House operates five days a week, all day long for eight
weeks. This ensures that children who might otherwise spend their days
alone at home, in a shelter or on the streets have a safe, enriching and
positive summer experience. While the kids get to participate in activities
ranging from archery to Career Week, their parents are able to find and
maintain employment. In addition to all of the exciting opportunities
offered on-site in the new Children’s Center, the youth also got to take 15
field trips to 32 locations throughout Central Arkansas.
