Gordon Swaby EDUFOCAL 3 KINGSTON, JAMAICA EduFocal is an innovative social learning platform that combines study with play. It’s the first tool of its kind created for students at the primary and secondary level in the Caribbean. The online platform offers preparatory questions for important education programmes. As students go through and complete the questions on EduFocal’s website, they are rewarded with ‘experience’ points which allow them to ‘level up’. The more experience points students get and the higher up in levels they go, the greater their chance of unlocking rewards. Teachers participate in writing questions and engaging the EduFocal community, which creates important student-teacher interaction. Tamsyn Browne ANIMAL HAVEN 6 MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA In 2009, Tamsyn, a trained veterinary nurse, opened Montego Bay Animal Haven (MBAH) - an animal shelter that rescues, rehabilitates and shelters unwanted and injured animals, mainly dogs. The general public can call MBAH to report an injured animal. Rescued animals, once healthy, are then offered up for adoption to good homes, including homes abroad. Tamsyn and her team also take rescued animals into schools to promote the health and welfare of the students’ own animals and those around them. MBAH is more than a charity. They also provide opportunities for ‘voluntourism,’ and offer dog training and boarding facilities. 1-876-457-1268 / 1-876-952-1602 See Also: Carol Lue CaribShare Biogas Pg. 13 Omar Evans Jamaica Volunteer Expedititions Pg. 50 Randy McLaren Articulet Edutainment Pg. 16 43
