What is a Community College ?
First , technically , a community college offers a comprehensive curriculum which includes both career programs and transfer programs .
The second piece of our identity is more of a mindset or mission that puts the emphasis on Community . If the community has a need , the College will do its utmost to meet it .
Danville Area Community College is committed to providing quality , innovative , and accessible learning experiences which meet the lifelong academic , cultural , and economic needs of our diverse communities and the world we share .
DACC offers programs in health professions , manufacturing , automotive technology , and agriculture – programs traditionally called “ trades ,” but now called Career & Technical Education . If a career is more appealing than a university degree , DACC will serve you well .
DACC ’ S Corporate and Customized Training department assists with training for incumbent workers as well as hiring and training new staff .
For those who are interested in a bachelor ’ s degree or higher , DACC ’ s traditional , transferable college courses can save families thousands ; our 3 + 1 partnerships
extend the savings for a third year . Dual credit courses allow high school students to cut time and expense to degree if they start during their junior year .
But the “ community ” commitment goes beyond education to include outreach . DACC ’ s athletic teams visit area grade schools and read to children . DACC ’ s cheerleaders help make and distribute free lunches during the summer . Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society members adopted a piece of Main Street and pick up trash along that stretch several times each year .
DACC also invites the community to our campus . We open the gym doors to high school athletic tournaments and the national basketball tournament . The College hosts academic competitions and career exploration days for high school students . We ’ re introducing Community Theater this fall . Our Pep Band and Esports programs host concerts and tournaments for the community . We hold a Block Party and host a Car Show annually .
We polish up the Welcome Mat and treat our guests like family . We want everyone in our community to feel they have a place to belong , feel appreciated , and grow on this Community College campus .
