When, in the Autumn and Winter of 1927, a group of men
(and some women) got together to discuss the construction
of a golf course at Mount Lawley on the then northern
periphery of Perth, they came together against a backdrop
of increasing economic uncertainty. Perth was undoubtedly
growing and sport had certainly already won a central place
in many Australian hearts. Golf must have its due.
So through 1927 and 1928 the Club and the course gradually
took shape, with the latter year becoming the one established
as marking Mount Lawley Golf Club’s foundation. Since its
formation in 1928, the Club has hosted numerous State
and National Amateur golf events and hosted the Western
Australian Open Championships in 2013.
Today, Mount Lawley Golf Club is one of Western Australia’s
premier sporting clubs, boasting a championship golf course
and outstanding member facilities.
