A note from the editor Vanessa Byrne / Managing Director

Summer invites movement.
It is a season of travel, discovery, and connection, a time when people cross borders, explore new destinations, and seek meaningful experiences. Yet, as this edition of OTWO reminds us, movement is about far more than simply getting from one place to another. It shapes economies, communities, ecosystems, and ultimately, the future we are building together.
In this summer edition, we explore the many ways sustainability intersects with mobility, tourism, innovation, and everyday life. From Gibraltar’ s evolving transport landscape to the wider ecological challenges and opportunities surrounding the Strait, one message becomes clear: progress must be intentional.
Our feature on tourist and worker flows in Gibraltar offers a fascinating perspective on the Rock as more than a destination. Gibraltar is a living, moving system, a place where tourism, employment, commuting, and daily life continuously intersect. Understanding these patterns is essential if we are to create infrastructure that serves people while reducing environmental impact.
This theme continues in our coverage of Eco Festival 2026, which this year reached record-breaking attendance. Seeing thousands of people, families, businesses, educators, and young people, come together in celebration of sustainability is a powerful reminder that environmental awareness is no longer a niche conversation. It is becoming part of our collective culture, and that gives me immense hope.
We also spotlight Gibraltar’ s solar success, showcasing how innovation, investment, and long-term thinking can accelerate the transition toward cleaner energy. Renewable energy is no longer a distant ambition; it is increasingly becoming a practical necessity and a defining pillar of future resilience.
Elsewhere in this edition, STAG highlights the urgent need to shift Gibraltar’ s transport strategy from car dependency to people-centred mobility. Through practical, low-cost solutions such as safer walking routes, cycling infrastructure, and e-bike support, the group shows how small changes can reduce congestion, improve public health, and create a more sustainable future.
Reclaiming Space reminds us that sustainability can also be found in the systems we rarely see. Smarter wastewater technologies are helping transform urban design by improving efficiency, reducing infrastructure footprints, and making better use of valuable space.
In At the Confluence of Two Seas, mythology and landscape meet, inviting us to view the Strait not merely as geography, but as a living story where ecology, spirituality, and history converge. This reflection carries beautifully into our travel features, from Weekend Breaks and Narrowing the Strait to Marca Parque Natural Andalucía, each encouraging a slower, more conscious relationship with the places we visit.
A special mention must also go to Owen Wiseman’ s Nature’ s Way, which once again offers a thoughtful reminder that nature holds lessons for us if we choose to observe, listen, and reconnect. Alongside The Natural Swap, these features reinforce that sustainable living is often shaped by small, mindful choices made every day.
At OTWO, we continue to believe that sustainability is not just about environmental protection. It is about creating systems that allow people, businesses, and communities to thrive responsibly. It is about balance, between growth and preservation, innovation and heritage, convenience and conscience.
As you read this edition, I hope you find inspiration in the stories, ideas, and people featured within these pages. Small actions, informed decisions, and collective ambition can shape extraordinary change. Because if there is one thing this summer edition demonstrates, it is this: the future is not something we wait for, it is something we actively build.
Peace and love, always.
