Pontevedra is acclaimed as the first city in Europe to embrace current transport thinking . It pioneered traffic reduction measures decades before we were even thinking about this and today is recognised as an incredible success story . This inspired team of politicians and administrators who bravely took the challenge and followed their convictions have been rewarded with an incredible period of 25 years in office being re-elected time and time again .
Earlier this year , the OTWO Team had the privilege of interviewing the Mayor of Pontevedra , Miguel Anxo Fernández Lores . We looked at the reforms that have transformed the city into an environment where pedestrians are prioritised over other forms of transport .
José Antonio Duarte Sastre , a researcher in urban physical activity and expert in active mobility ; Ángel Luis Duarte Sastre PhD , Professor of Transport Engineering and Infrastructure at the University of Cadiz , and former Minister for Transport in Gibraltar , Paul Balban joined us for the visit . All of us share a common passion for sustainable urban reform and were eager to learn from Pontevedra ' s success .
We were warmly welcomed by Daniel Macenlle , responsible for Urban Protection and a former Chief of Police . Daniel began by showing us photos of the road changes and main circulation improvements made to transform the city . He emphasized that the goal was to prioritize people , creating clean public

A principios de este año , el equipo de la OTWO tuvo el privilegio de entrevistar al alcalde de Pontevedra , Miguel Anxo Fernández Lores . Analizamos las reformas que han transformado la ciudad en un entorno en el que se da prioridad a los peatones frente a otras formas de transporte .
