This requires the involvement of residents in urban planning and sustainability discussions . Such active participation would lead to a greater willingness to adopt new models , as demonstrated by the transformation of Pontevedra .
Pontevedra is a clear example that a shift towards car-free cities is not only possible , but urgently needed . If Gibraltar were to adopt a model similar to that of the Galician capital , it could improve the quality of life of its inhabitants and preserve the value of a unique environment . By learning from Pontevedra ' s success , Gibraltar has the opportunity to redefine its urban landscape , fostering a more connected , accessible and vibrant community .
Un camino compartido
Pero a pesar de estas diferencias , Pontevedra y Gibraltar comparten varias similitudes , lo que sugiere que Gibraltar podría adoptar un enfoque parecido a la realidad gallega de una ciudad « sin coches ».
Ambas localidades tienen áreas urbanas relativamente pequeñas , lo que facilita la aplicación de iniciativas favorables a los peatones y la mejora del transporte público . Gibraltar , por cuestiones evidentes , ya se considera una « ciudad de 15 minutos », donde todos los servicios son accesibles en bicicleta , a pie o en autobús .
Al igual que Pontevedra , Gibraltar posee un rico patrimonio histórico , cultural y natural . La peatonalización y la reducción del tráfico de automóviles permitiría un mayor disfrute de este magnífico legado , mejorando su accesibilidad y atractivo .
Para ello hay que involucrar a los residentes en los debates sobre planificación urbana y sostenibilidad . Con esta participación activa se conseguiría una mayor disposición a adoptar nuevos modelos , como lo demuestra la transformación de Pontevedra .
Esta ciudad es un claro ejemplo de que el cambio hacia ciudades sin coches no sólo es posible , sino urgentemente necesario . Si Gibraltar , adoptase un modelo similar al de la capital gallega , podría mejorar la calidad de vida de sus habitantes y preservar el valor de un entorno único . Aprendiendo del éxito de Pontevedra , Gibraltar tiene la oportunidad de redefinir su paisaje urbano , fomentando una comunidad más conectada , accesible y vibrante .
