concerned about the great wild fires that are devastating
forests in many parts of the planet, just another
example of the increase in average temperatures
year after year. The extensive cattle ranching,
cattle routes and rich yet threatened biodiversity,
are other aspects that I touch on in the book. There
is an important chapter dedicated to Science,
Research and the Conservation of Nature, where
I have gathered the opinions and experiences of
scientists such as Darwin, Alexander Von Humboldt,
Henry David Thoreau, and the North American
George Perkins Marsh, who warned us in the middle
of the 19th century: “If we do not change, the
planet will end up in a state of destroyed surfaces,
climatic excesses, and we could reach the extinction
of the human species ”. Or the teachings of
the German naturalist Haeckel who also gave us
a wake-up call: “Europe and its hyper-civilisation
will soon be over”, which he wrote at the end of
the 19th century.
I also dedicate a chapter to the Galapagos Islands,
reviewing Darwin’s trip, and comparing some of his
finding with the things I saw on an expedition with
a team from “Land and Sea” to the Ecuadorian archipelago
in the Pacific in March 2005. In the book I
write about and summarise different Earth Summits.
I write about the threat of plastic on our oceans and
global warming, and for the final chapter I collate the
opinions of different people and their perceptions on
how they feel Climate Change is affecting their lives,
and what can be done to mitigate those effects.
Included, amongst others, are the opinions of María
Novo, Joaquín Araújo, Reyes Tirado, Antonio Aguilera
and José Esquinas, as well as numerous Andalusian
farmers, ranchers and businessmen who gave
us their views on the issue.
I believe that as a whole, this educational book
can serve as a manual to warn us of the disasters
man has been carrying out against nature in recent
decades, while also warning us of the urgency to
change our current way of life and the energy system
that supports it. It is clear that we must replace
energy sources from fossil fuels, such as coal, oil
and gas, with renewable energies such as solar,
photovoltaic, wind and offshore wind before It is too
late, because the future of humanity, as I state in the
books title, is in danger.

enseñanzas del alemán Haeckel quien también nos
dio un toque de atención: “Europa y su hipercivilización
desaparecerán pronto”, y esto lo escribió, a
finales del siglo XIX.
Dedico también un capítulo a las Islas Galápagos,
repasando el viaje de Darwin, y comparando algunas
cosas con las que yo vi en la expedición que hicimos
en marzo de 2005, con un equipo de “Tierra y
Mar” al archipiélago ecuatoriano en el Pacífico. En
el libro escribo y resumo las diferentes Cumbres de
la Tierra. Escribo sobre la amenaza de los mares de
plástico, y el calentamiento global, y al final recojo
en un capítulo la opinión de diferentes personas y su
percepción sobre cómo sienten los efectos del Cambio
Climático en su vida, y que se puede hacer para
mitigar sus efectos. Aquí he contado entre otros, con
las opiniones de María Novo, Joaquín Araújo, Reyes
Tirado, Antonio Aguilera, José Esquinas, y numerosos
agricultores, ganaderos y empresarios andaluces
que nos dan su visión sobre el problema.
Creo que en conjunto, este libro de divulgación
puede ser un manual para advertirnos de los desastres
que el hombre viene realizando en las últimas
décadas, contra la Naturaleza, al tiempo que nos
advierte sobre la emergencia de cambiar el sistema
de vida que llevamos, y el sistema energético que lo
soporta, que a todas luces debe sustituir las energías
procedentes de combustibles fósiles, como el
carbón, el petróleo y el gas, por las energías renovables
como la solar, la fotovoltaica, la eólica y la
eólica marina, antes de que sea demasiado tarde,
pues, el futuro de la Humanidad, como digo en el
título, está en peligro.
