GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES NEW BICYCLE
PARKING SPACES AROUND GIBRALTAR.
The Ministry of Business, Tourism and Transport
has announced the launch of new bicycle racks
across Gibraltar.
Ten new parking locations will provide an increase
of 70 bike spaces in key areas, including near the
city centre and other leisure locations.
These new spaces will complement already existing
bicycle parking around the city and are part of
the provision to encourage locals and visitors to
choose greener, more sustainable modes of transport
by providing further infrastructure and facilities
that are both safe and convenient for cyclists.
The new locations are; the British War Memorial,
St. Anne’s School (Trigge Road), Referendum Gates,
Rosia Ramp (by Dolphin Youth Club), Casemates,
John Mackintosh Hall, Glacis Road (by Royal Ocean
Plaza), Laguna Youth Club (Glacis Estate), Plater Youth
Club (Moorish Castle Estate) and John Mackintosh
Square.
The Government will also roll out more bicycle
parking in the future as part of a wider implementation
plan that will go alongside new bicycle lane
infrastructure to create essential bicycle routes
throughout Gibraltar.
In a statement the Minister for Business, Tourism
and Transport, Vijay Daryanani said, “The further roll-out
of bicycle parking in strategic areas throughout
Gibraltar is a step in the right direction to promote
and encourage the use of other forms of sustainable
mode of transport. This will go hand in hand with
the Government’s commitments to provide bicycle
infrastructure as per the recently announced beautification
schemes along the City Centre.”
