El Efecto Dominó en campañas de educación ambiental

For Verdemar Ecologists in Action, environmental
education has an important role to play when fa-
cing the challenge of “innovative learning”, which
is characterised as anticipating and participating
in a way that not only allows us to gain a better
understanding, but also how to get involved so
that we can learn more. With the “shores without
cigarette butts” campaign, this domino effect has
been created in a welcome way and accompanied
by a greater awareness of the environment.
Environmental Education is a response to the
environmental crisis Planet Earth has been su-
ffering for years. Little by little, human beings
are beginning to read the environment they are
immersed in and developing a new worldview,
a new perception of the relationship between
humans, society and the environment and using
new tools for environmental and outreach cam-
paigns.
The concept of the environment has evolved
in such a way that it has fundamentally shifted
from just considering its physical and biological
elements, to a broader concept which highlights

ambiental tiene un importante papel que jugar a
la hora de afrontar el desafío de un “aprendizaje
innovador” caracterizado por la anticipación y la
participación que permita no sólo comprender, sino
también implicarse en aquello que queremos enten-
der. Con la campaña “Orillas sin colillas” el efecto
dominó se ha producido de una manera grata acom-
pañada de espontaneidad y concienciación por el
entorno.
La Educación Ambiental es una respuesta a la
crisis ambiental que desde hace años el Planeta
Tierra lleva padeciendo. Poco a poco, el ser humano
empieza a realizar una nueva lectura del medio en
el que está inmerso y una nueva cosmovisión, una
nueva percepción de la relación ser humano-socie-
dad-medio, utilizando herramientas nuevas dentro
de las campañas ambientales o de divulgación.
El concepto de medio ambiente ha ido evolucio-
nando de tal forma que se ha pasado de considerar
fundamentalmente sus elementos físicos y biológi-
cos a una concepción más amplia en la que se des-
tacan las interacciones entre sus diferentes aspec-

different areas of interaction, placing an empha-
sis on economic and sociocultural issues.
Therefore, we are not only taking classic pro-
blems such as pollution and spills into considera-
tion, but others that are linked to social, cultural
and economic issues that are ultimately related
to development models and consumption. In ad-
dition, environmental issues that have gone un-
noticed by the public for years are now coming
together, as is the case with cigarette butts.
In fact, current environmental concepts are now
closely linked to development. This relationship is
crucial in order to understand environmental pro-
blems and to get closer to the concept of sustai-
nable development that guarantees an adequate
quality of life for current and future generations.
When there are shortcomings in these interac-
tions, environmental problems arise.
The relationship between education and the
environment is not new, however, innovation pro-
vided by environmental education shows that the
environment, on top of being an educational tool,
study content or an academic resource, is in itself

y sociocultural.
Por lo tanto, hoy en día se identifican como am-
bientales no sólo los problemas clásicos relativos
a contaminación, vertidos, etc., sino también otros
más ligados a cuestiones sociales, culturales, eco-
nómicas..., relacionadas en definitiva con el modelo
de desarrollo y consumo. Además se van uniendo
problemas ambientales que desde hace años pa-
saban desapercibido a los ciudadanos en general,
como es el caso de las colillas.
De hecho, actualmente la idea de medio ambiente
se encuentra íntimamente ligada a la de desarrollo
y esta relación resulta crucial para comprender la
problemática ambiental y para acercarse a la idea
de un desarrollo sostenible que garantice una ade-
cuada calidad de vida para las generaciones actua-
les y para las futuras. Cuando se produce algún fallo
en esas interacciones surgen los problemas am-
bientales. Las relaciones entre educación y medio
ambiente no son nuevas, sin embargo, la novedad
que aporta la educación ambiental es que el medio
ambiente, además de medio educativo, contenido a
