mastic tree leaves which, once the clay has been
baked, provides an intense and durable black colour.
On the east coast, just on the edge of the Reser-
ve and within the region inhabited by the Beni Said
tribe, is the Ifrane Ali Douar located within the muni-
cipality of Oued Laou. With its characteristic houses
made of mud and branches, barely indistinguishable
against the landscape on which they stand. This vi-
llage specialises mainly in the production of mini-
mally decorated reddish culinary pots for daily use.
They are sold to locals and are also purchased as
decorative objects by tourists who appreciate their
unique and distinctive design. However, the unde-
niable success of these ceramics demonstrates that

En la costa este, justo en el límite de la Reserva,
en la región que habita la tribu Beni Said, se encuen-
tra el aduar de Ifrane Ali, perteneciente al municipio
de Oued Laou, con sus características viviendas rea-
lizadas de barro y ramas, apenas indistinguibles del
paisaje sobre el que se erigen. Esta aldea está espe-
cializada fundamentalmente en la producción de va-
sijas culinarias de color rojizo para el uso cotidiano,
sin apenas ornamentación, vendidas tanto para uso
local como para la adquisición como objeto decora-
tivo para los turistas que aprecian su singularidad
y su tipismo. Sin embargo, su indiscutible éxito de-

there are still several hundred women who dedicate
themselves to this work, keeping the tradition ali-
ve. Used primarily for cooking tagines, a staple of
Moroccan popular cuisine, the constant restocking
of these pots shows a promising future ahead, unlike
most ancient Riffian ceramics traditions, that are in
danger of becoming extinct in the coming years.
In the Bni Arouss village, right in the centre of
the Moroccan side of the RBIM, which belongs to
the Ait Aaros tribe, we can still find some remnants
of functional ceramic activity, with primitive forms
and decorations that are intended exclusively for
internal domestic consumers. However, there is a
great diversity in styles, sizes and finishes at the
southern end of the RBIM, in the surrounding areas

quienes se dediquen a esta actividad y mantengan
viva la tradición. Al ser usadas fundamentalmente
para la cocción de tagines, elemento principal de la
gastronomía popular marroquí, su constante reposi-
ción le augura un prometedor futuro, al contrario que
la mayoría de la cerámica rifeña ancestral, que corre
peligro de seria extinción en los próximos años.
En el aduar de Beni Arous, justo en el centro del
lado marroquí de la RBIM, podemos encontrar toda-
vía algunos restos de actividad cerámica funcional,
con ornamentación y formas muy primitivas, destina-
das exclusivamente al consumo interno doméstico.
Sin embargo, la mayor diversidad en estilos, tama-
ños y acabados lo tenemos en el extremo sur de la
