Cadiz Bay Salt Marshes
We invite you to learn about the secrets of these
salt marshes and their birdlife. We’ll show you one
of the salt marshes that propelled Cádiz to worldwi-
de fame in salt production and you’ll get to meet the
master salt harvester who keeps this tradition alive.
Discover the profession of salt harvesting,
knowledge and techniques that have been handed
down through generations since Phoenician times
and that are today at the vanguard and even the fu-
ture of this profession.
You’ll enter a saltpan house, follow a tidal chan-
nel, learn about the estuaries and you’ll see the
birds, fish and crustaceans that use this labyrinth of
water. You’ll also be able to taste the numerous food
products created here!
We will show you the legendary island that lends
its name to one of Paris’ most emblematic sights:
Trocadero Square. Navigate through the bay and
visit the island with experts from Salarte who will
show you the conservation projects that they have
created to protect Spoonbills, waders and Ospreys.
Try your hand at harvesting salt with the “vara”
(salt rake) and become an expert in artisanal gour-
met salt. If you visit during harvesting season you’ll
be able to collect your own virgin marine salt.
The Strait of Gibraltar and La Janda
We invite you to join us in visiting the most legen-
dary territory in Western Europe’s history, the Strait
of Gibraltar. The colony of Northern Bald Ibis in Vejer
and La Janda will welcome you on your way down
to the coast.
Prehistoric tombs, Roman cities, cave paintings,
the largest sand dune in the Iberian Peninsula, an-
cient watch towers, coastal cliffs… all unique and
spectacular sights, just a short distance away from
Casa Martinete.
Sail with killer whales, European Storm Petrels
and Shearwaters, wade in the waters that separate
Europe and Africa, witness the struggle of thousands
of birds as they battle against the elements in their
attempt to cross Europe’s most important migratory
corridor, explore the Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia,
get close up to a “levantá” (the raising of the nets in
Almadraba tuna fishing) or watch a “ronqueo” (arti-
sanal method of dissecting tuna) as tuna is brought
into port or accompany a goat shepherd and watch

Salinas de la Bahia de Cádiz.
Conozca las aves y los secretos de las salinas de
la Bahia de Cádiz. Se adentrará en una de las sali-
nas que dieron fama mundial a Cádiz, conociendo al
maestro salinero que la mantiene viva.
Descubrirá el oficio de salicultor, la sabiduría e
historia que guardan sus manos después de siglos
depurando una técnica púnico-fenicia que aun hoy
es vanguardia y futuro.
Entrará en una casa salinera, recorrerá un caño
mareal, conocerá un estero, y descubrirá las aves,
peces y crustáceos que utilizan su laberinto de agua.
Y degustará sus frescos manjares.
Sabrá la importancia que para la biodiversidad
tiene el manejo de la marisma salinera, y el impor-
tante papel que juegan las salinas en la migración
de aves entre Europa y África.
Conocerá la mítica isla que le da nombre al mayor
emblema de París: la Plaza del Trocadero. Navegan-
do por la bahía, visitará la isla y técnicos de la ONG
Salarte le mostrarán los proyectos de conservación
que desarrollan para recuperar espátulas, larolimí-
colas y el águila pescadora.
Se convertirá en un experto en sal gourmet arte-
sanal manejando la vara con el maestro salicultor y,
si nos visita en época de recolección, podrá cosechar
su propia sal marina virgen.
Estrecho de Gibraltar y La Janda
Le invitamos a descubrir el emblemático Estrecho
de Gibraltar, el territorio más mítico de la historia de
occidente. La colonia de ibis eremita en Vejer y La
Janda nos darán la bienvenida.
Tumbas antropomorfas, ciudades romanas, cue-
vas con pinturas rupestres, la duna más grande de
la Península Ibérica, torres vigías, acantilados cos-
teros...escenarios únicos y exclusivos a un paso de
Casa Martinete.
Navegar con orcas, pardelas y paíños, pisar el
océano entre Europa y África, sentir el vuelo de miles
de aves por el Estrecho luchando contra los elemen-
tos para atravesar el corredor migratorio más impor-
tante de Europa, vivir la experiencia de ser parte de
la historia paseando por Baelo Claudia, contemplar
una levantá o vivir el ronqueo de los atunes cuando
