A note from the editor Vanessa Byrne / Managing Director

As the world intensifies its focus on sustainability , OTWO embraces this season of change and renewed commitment . November reminds us of our shared role as custodians of the Earth , rethinking not only how we live but how we engage with the environment . From local initiatives in Gibraltar to global dialogues at COP29 , sustainability is more than a goal ; it ’ s a shared journey .
We are thrilled to announce that we ’ re preparing to resume our printed editions of OTWO Magazine ! It ’ s a busy season for our team as we work to bring OTWO back in print , launching a wide distribution at the beginning of the year across Gibraltar and the Andalucía region . We look forward to reaching more readers and empowering a broader audience to make sustainable choices and support environmental action .
In this issue , we dive into Gibraltar ’ s sustainability efforts . As highlighted on page 10 , the recent Net Zero Delivery Board meeting , chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Dr . Joseph Garcia , reflects our government ’ s commitment to prioritizing renewable energy . Projects like the expansion of hydrogenated vegetable oil ( HVO ) fuel for public buses and photovoltaic installations at Gibraltar International Airport have already led to reductions in emissions . These actions mean more than numbers ; they represent shared responsibility in securing a cleaner future .
An inspiring example of community-led action is showcased on page 48 , where the Environmental Safety Group ’ s ( ESG ) 20th anniversary of Clean Up the World is highlighted . This event brought together nearly 700 volunteers from schools , NGOs , and local businesses , all dedicated to preserving Gibraltar ’ s natural beauty . Collecting 15 truckloads of waste across 26 sites reflects the power of collaboration for the planet .
Continuing our focus on reducing waste , we ’ re also excited to highlight the “ Unblocktober ” campaign ( page 45 ), a month-long initiative encourag- ing residents to improve waste disposal habits to protect our drains , sewers , and oceans . With rising local participation , “ Unblocktober ” reminds us that thoughtful waste disposal leads to impactful change .
We ’ re pleased to feature a second chapter by Anthony Pitaluga , who offers readers a captivating exploration of Dublin on page 61 . His piece delves into the rich history , culture , and unique cityscape of Ireland ’ s capital , taking readers on a vivid journey through its streets and stories .
Additionally , on page 32 , Annabelle Codali explores whether the Government of Gibraltar and local businesses are doing enough to promote corporate responsibility . Her article highlights the essential role of government policy and corporate initiatives in fostering a sustainable , healthy environment , with insights into how each of us can contribute to a greener Gibraltar .
For a global perspective , don ’ t miss our coverage of COP29 on page 18 . This pivotal event will bring together global leaders and scientists to explore innovative climate solutions and accelerate progress toward net-zero emissions . As the conversations unfold , OTWO will share insights that can inspire local adaptation here in Gibraltar .
Closer to home , the OTWO Challenge on page 28 features Minister Dr . John Cortes ’ s upcoming cycle event around Gibraltar in support of the GBC Open Day . This challenge showcases the connection between health , sustainability , and community spirit , inviting residents to participate or support the cause . Every effort , whether on a bicycle or in daily choices , brings us closer to a greener future .
We are honored to share these stories and support individuals and organizations committed to positive change . We hope this edition inspires each of you as we move forward together , one sustainable step at a time .
Peace and Love always
