Gibraltar ’ s cycling community gathered on Friday 15th April to demonstrate just how popular cycling has become . The main group of cyclists travelled together as a group starting in front of the EBike Experience Store in Ocean Village . Others made their way from various points across Gibraltar . The cycle ended at Europa Point , with other members of the community joining the cyclists to show their support and take a group photo by the lighthouse .
The organisers and participants are calling for several measures to improve cycling conditions in Gibraltar . The aim is to make cycling safer for the whole community and encourage more people to use their cars and motorbikes less to help reduce congestion and pollution . Encouraging more people to use green modes of transport will result in a healthier community , better traffic flow for essential vehicles and improved quality of life for all .
OTWO , EBike Gibraltar and all of the participants are calling for initial changes that can be implemented efficiently and effectively such as advance boxes at traffic lights , increased safety signage and street stencils and educational advertising for the community . Cyclists also wanted to demonstrate their support for a proposal to create a safe space for cyclists on a stretch of Line Wall Road on one Sunday morning of each month .
