A note from the editor Vanessa Byrne / Managing Director
A warm welcome to our May 2022 edition .
Modern living makes you move at an incredible pace ; fast fashion , fast foods , fast technologies , new dreams of even faster methods , new goals set at faster intervals , bigger challenges , and more responsibilities . Is this really the way we want to develop ? Are we missing the bigger picture ? Is this quest for fast everything constantly sidetracking us from what is real and important ?
We certainly are not fast enough applying solutions to problems , instead we stay obsessed pushing ourselves and our expectations . We patch up rather than solve our problems . We frantically firefight , instead of working to avoid the fire . Perhaps if we took a breath , our energies could be used to better effect . We need to slow down this frantic pace we seem addicted to , it ’ s almost as though if you are not stressed or rushed you are failing in life when precisely the opposite is true . Just had to share these thoughts with you , after all that ’ s what we are here to do , but hey c ’ mon , we can do better , we must do better !
In our news shorts this month we share a new technology , solar thermal energy storage . If developed further , this could mean all countries regardless of their development status or geographical location could have a constant supply of energy . Energy is now an essential commodity to survive the temperatures we are all going to live with .
What can come in the way of this progress ? Unfortunately , an age-old weakness , Greed .
No one should be allowed to own these technologies or control the benefits they could bring . They must belong to the people , to our future generations . Our leaders really must be thinking how to ensure that these innovations continue to develop into solutions for the many not just those who can afford it , this is about survival . Fruit for thought .
We would like to introduce to you all our new contributor , AMA Services . Their services include mechanical , electrical , structural engineering and many more . They join us in recognizing the harmful effects of climate change and have committed to a better , greener world for our future generations . To meet their commitment and growing concerns they have expanded their services and opened a Sustainable Energy Engineering Department purely focused on sustainability within the built environment and proactively taking on the challenge of a greener future . Amazing ! Well done people , more companies should follow your example ; pleasure to have you aboard .
A must mention and a real eye opener is the article from The Fair Traveller Amarytierra on page 46 . I am fortunate enough to have gone and visited Japan on various occasions and can truthfully say their culture and traditions are of one of the most humblest and inspiring . As always , Ainara capture ’ s it beautifully - a must read and if you possible , an adventure to experience .
Wow , I cannot believe this is our 34th edition , we cannot be more grateful and privileged to have met , worked , and supported such amazing and inspirational people throughout our 34 months of existence . Thank you .
Peace and love to all
