This will hopefully avoid issues in the future where certain developments have not allowed enough space in front of their buildings , resulting in very narrow stretches of pavement making the siting of a future bicycle lane impossible . Moving forward , there will be obligations placed on developers to include within their footprints sufficient space for pedestrians , cyclists and in doing so , to create social areas where possible , in an attempt to make our streets liveable , greener and child friendly . What will third-party funding entail for the Active Travel Strategy ?
Private funding will help make Gibraltar a more liveable city quicker . By seeking stakeholder funding , we can embark upon a better , more attractive future for our city and work in collaboration for a more inclusive , modern , and vibrant city which will be attractive to residents and will help attract visitors and tourists . Everyone loves pleasant and attractive cites . There are companies that wish to give back to the community ; Campion Park , for example , was funded in this manner . If a business or entity wishes to help fund city improvements and infrastructure projects of this nature , and by doing so , create a more sustainable and environmental pleasing cityscape we would be most amenable to this and would be pleased to promote their contributions in this respect .
If we received the right amount of private funding , the entire project could potentially be finished in a few years , expediting the process tremendously . Each year the Ministry for Transport seeks parliamentary-approved funding for projects of this nature ; last year , we received £ 800,000 under the Sustainable Traffic Transport and Parking Plan ( STTPP ), which covers all projects that refer to the STTPP , that includes bicycle lanes , roundabouts , signage , and changes to parking so that amount must be stretched very far .
