La Junta debatió el informe de la Evaluación de Prefactibilidad Eólica y recibió información actualizada sobre los avances en ámbitos como la energía , las finanzas , el sector de la construcción , el transporte y los residuos .
El Ministro de Medio Ambiente , John Cortés , comentó : « El Net Zero Delivery Body está llevando a cabo una labor vital . Aunque pueda parecer que Gibraltar desempeña un papel menor en comparación con países más grandes , tenemos el deber de proteger nuestro entorno . No se trata sólo de mejorar la calidad de vida , sino de enseñar a las generaciones futuras a cuidar correctamente de Gibraltar . Este Organismo proporciona la plataforma perfecta para una visión estratégica de conjunto , que nos permita alcanzar nuestros objetivos de forma más rápida y uniforme ».
DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT ATTENDS BLUE BELT PROGRAMME SYM
Earlier this past month , Environment Officer Clive Crisp participated in the Blue Belt Programme Symposium held in London .
The Blue Belt Programme is the UK Government ’ s flagship international marine conservation initiative . It collaborates closely with UK Overseas Territories to help create and maintain healthy and productive marine ecosystems .
UK Overseas Territories are home to around 90 % of the UK ’ s biodiversity and host a vast array of unique and endangered species , some of which are found nowhere else on earth .
This flagship programme is central to the UK Government ’ s ambition to lead action in tackling serious global issues such as overfishing , species extinction , and climate change .
The symposium , which began on a Monday , was opened by UK Minister for Climate , Environment , and Energy , the Rt . Hon . Lord Benyon . In his opening remarks , he reiterated the importance of understanding and protecting our oceans . Lord Benyon also delivered a message from the King , describing it as a first for him and an honour and privilege .
Delegates and representatives from Overseas Territories shared their experiences , challenges , and innovative techniques in participating in the Blue Belt Programme . The Blue Belt aims to assist the UK Overseas Territories in protecting and enhancing ocean health to halt biodiversity loss , enable sustainable growth , ensure climate change resilience , and connect people with the natural environment .
