pass before our eyes and we end up “consuming”
them as if they were fast food. A photograph is not
truly appreciated with a simple “like”. If all the
images that pass in front of our eyes are seen this
way, we are neither evaluating what we see nor
are we learning from it. To avoid this, we should
not settle for just viewing photographs. We must
read them. It is said that “an image is worth a thousand
words” but it seems that lately only the one
is used.
An image should be analysed from various angles,
to see what it is, what it means and what it is
trying to signify. From time to time, it is important
that we stop to read and analyse a photograph as it
will impart much more. Among them, learning how
to take better photos.
It is essential to ask what an image is demonstrating
and how it is demonstrating it. The next
question we must ask ourselves is: What is the
photographer’s intention? Taking this into account
is especially important to fully value the results.
What was the theme of your last exhibition:
“Images with their own voice”?
When you see your captured image, digitally
or in print, only you know what you felt, what you
lived in that moment. My last exhibition, “Images
with their own voice”, which I unveiled here in Los
Barrios two years ago, gave me great satisfaction
in terms of its message. The project was realised
with my colleague and friend Maribel González
López. Passionate about literature, she wrote the
text explaining what each of my images evoked in
her. Next to each of my photos was her text. It is
the only exhibition of mine that cannot be framed
in a theme because the choices came from my
friends’ heart. She viewed my photographs and
chose those that spoke to her, those that excited
her. There are images of nature, portraits, street
photography, landscapes, ... The objective of celebrating
our long and deep friendship by sharing our
two hobbies; literature and photography, was fully
achieved. It was both interesting and satisfying to
see how visitors stood before each image and read
what my friend had written, they would then return
to the image and then again to the text and then
discuss it with their companion. It was very educational.
Today, most people see one photo, move on
Recibimos un verdadero bombardeo de imágenes
diariamente. Miles pasan ante nuestros ojos y
acabamos “consumiéndolas” como si fueran comida
rápida. No se aprecia una fotografía con un simple
“Me gusta”. Si todas las imágenes que pasan por
delante de nuestros ojos son vistas así, ni estamos
valorando lo que vemos ni estamos aprendiendo de
ello. Para evitar esto, no debemos conformarnos con
ver fotografías. Debemos leerlas. Se dice que “una
imagen vale más que mil palabras” pero parece que
últimamente sólo se utilizan esas dos.
Una imagen debe analizarse desde varios puntos,
ver qué es, qué significa y qué intenta significar. Sí
es importante que, de vez en cuando, nos paremos a
leer y analizar alguna fotografía pues eso nos aportará
muchas cosas. Entre ellas, aprender a hacer
mejor fotos.
Es fundamental preguntarse qué muestra una
imagen y cómo lo muestra. La siguiente pregunta
que debemos hacernos es: ¿Qué intención tiene el
fotógrafo? Tener eso en cuenta es muy importante
para valorar el resultado.
¿Cuál era la temática de su última exposición:
“Imágenes con voz propia”?
Cuando ves tu imagen captada, digitalmente o
impresa, sólo tú sabes lo que sentiste, lo que viviste
en ese instante. Mi última exposición, “Imágenes
con voz propia”, que inauguré aquí en Los Barrios
hace dos años, me produjo una gran satisfacción al
respecto de lo que comento. Se trata de un trabajo
realizado con mi compañera y amiga Maribel González
López. Ella, como apasionada de la literatura,
escribió un texto contando lo que cada una de mis
imágenes le evocaba. Junto a cada foto mía estaba
su texto. Es la única exposición que he realizado
que no se puede encuadrar en una temática porque
la elección fue hecha por el corazón de mi amiga.
Ella visualizó mis fotografías y eligió aquellas que
le sugerían algo, aquellas que la emocionaban. Hay
imágenes de naturaleza, retratos, fotografía de calle,
paisajes,… El objetivo que era celebrar nuestra
larga y profunda amistad compartiendo nuestras dos
aficiones, la literatura y la fotografía, se consiguió
plenamente. Fue muy curioso y satisfactorio ver
cómo los visitantes se paraban ante cada imagen
y leían lo que mi amiga había escrito, volvían a la
imagen y luego otra vez al texto para luego comentar
