bility, so she is responsible for anything related to that. That is why we get along so well, allowing us to work together. It is also because we as an organisation have nothing to do with politics, for that reason, we can also do other things within the Straits, including Morocco. We can do cultural gatherings and other similar activities. In Morocco, there is UNESCO representation, but it is not the same as in Europe, understandably because they have less participation there. However, a couple of Moroccan’ s were invited and attended the conference we held recently, that is why it is quite easy for us to do activities related to the Straits. I think it is a very interesting subject, we live in a very impressive geostrategic location, there are few like it in the world. We have Africa over there, Europe here, it is a magnificent enclave, one that also benefits from speaking the two most spoken languages in the world. I worked with the Instituto Cervantes in Gibraltar for four years where over 600 students studied. I assisted in putting together the teaching staff and afterwards, they asked me to stay on to collaborate with them, so I taught the basic Spanish course. Whilst there I did a good number of great classes in Gibraltar. The advanced classes were mainly taken up by lawyers and businesspeople who needed to perfect their Spanish. I have always said that this area is greatly advantaged by the fact that two of the most spoken languages in the world are used here( apart from Chinese). Therefore, speaking both languages can open doors to people in the area and we need to convince everyone of that. We all need to learn, both in the Campo and in Gibraltar. People in Gibraltar need to maximise their Spanish, and we need to maximise our English. I have three children, two boys and one girl. Ana, the girl, has worked in Gibraltar for the last 10 years for the Gibraltar Government in Social Services. She has that job role because she speaks English perfectly. The eldest is a computer engineer and travels a lot to places like Cardiff, London and Amsterdam with a big software company. The youngest is a doctor, he also studied in Malaga and ever since his first year studying medicine, the course was taught in both English in Spanish. There are now lots of bilingual schools in Spain. My grandson for example is 5 years old and is in first school and is already being taught English. Fortunately, times have changed. But que reunirnos mensualmente, la pandemia hizo que utilizáramos las reuniones virtuales en vez de viajes. En la Federación decidimos todo lo que hay que hacer, todos los programas, y el tema de subvenciones, para la zona del campo de Gibraltar y también represento a nivel nacional como vocal. Eso conlleva bastantes tareas, entre viajes, reuniones, conferencias etc. ¿ Hay alguien quien representa a la UNESCO en Gibraltar?
No creo. Daniella tiene también el encargo de la sostenibilidad entonces de esos temas se encarga ella, por eso hemos hecho tan buenas migas, eso nos permite hacer cosas, al margen de que nosotros no tenemos nada que ver con la política, y por lo mismo podemos hacer algo con El Estrecho, incluyendo a Marruecos. Podemos hacer encuentros de Cultura y cosas parecidas. En Marruecos hay representación de la UNESCO, pero no es igual que en Europa, evidentemente porque la participación es un poco más baja. Pero te puedo decir que en la asamblea nuestra de hace poquito también vinieron un par de marroquíes como invitados y por eso es fácil hacer algo sobre el tema del estrecho. Yo creo que es un tema muy interesante, vivimos en un sitio geoestratégico impresionante, como pocos hay en el mundo. Tenemos África allí, Europa aquí, es un enclave magnifico. Y al hablar dos de los idiomas más usados del mundo. Yo estuve durante cuatro años en el Instituto Cervantes de Gibraltar, ahí teníamos más de 600 alumnos, y yo participé en la formación de los profesores de ese Cervantes y ya claro después de hacer eso me pidieron que me quedase para colaborar. Y lo que daba era el curso avanzado( C2) de español. Y ahí pues hice una cantidad de clases impresionantes en Gibraltar, porque los cursos avanzados eran para abogados o empresarios que necesitaban el español más perfecto. Y siempre lo decía, tenemos la ventaja de poseer en la zona los dos idiomas más hablados del mundo( aparte del chino), entonces las personas de la zona que tengan los dos idiomas les abren las puertas, y eso les tenemos que convencer a todos, de que hay que aprender, tanto en la zona del Campo de Gibraltar como en Gibraltar, vosotros potenciar más el español y nosotros más el inglés.
