MINISTER CORTES ATTENDED COP28
Minister Cortes had the privilege of representing Gibraltar at COP28 , the global Climate Change conference held in the United Arab Emirates in December . As a key member of the United Kingdom Delegation in Dubai , he engaged with officials from the UK COP28 Negotiating Team , addressing critical issues affecting Gibraltar and contributing to the UK ' s stance . Throughout the week , Minister Cortes met with UK government ministers and parliamentarians to advocate for Gibraltar ' s interests . On Friday , December 8th , Minister Cortes spoke at a panel event in the UK Pavilion , chaired by the Minister for Energy and Climate Change , Graham Stuart . The panel focused on how Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies , including Gibraltar , are working towards achieving net zero emissions and the challenges they face as smaller territories .
Ministers from Bermuda , Jersey , and Guernsey also shared their perspectives .
The COP28 thematic program , organized around designated daily themes , featured discussions on sustainable transport and education . This provided Minister Cortes with valuable opportunities to network and engage with professionals in these sectors , further enhancing Gibraltar ' s involvement in global sustainability initiatives .
