LONDON ULTRA LOW EMISSIONS ZONE TO BE EXPANDED IN 2023
By the end of August next year , the London Ultra Low Emissions Zone ( ULEZ ) will be expanded to cover the entire London area .
From the 29th of August 2023 , drivers with the most polluting vehicles will have to pay £ 12.50 a day to enter the Greater London Authority Boundary with their car .
The scheme was introduced in 2019 to help lower harmful air pollution in the capital . Drivers with highly polluting vehicles are charged to enter the city ' s north and south orbital roads . Drivers who live within the ULEZ are not exempt from the charge .
Climate and Environment groups have praised the ULEZ expansion , as well as public health groups such as Mums for Lungs , who called the plan “ a win for health ”.
On twitter , London Mayor Sadie Khan said “ Cleaner air is coming to Outer London . Today I ’ m announcing that we ’ re expanding the # ULEZ London-wide in a move that will bring cleaner air to five million more Londoners ”.
