ración entre el equipo de la UCA y la finca La Almoraima culminaron en una jornada de puertas abiertas en la que se presentó el Plan Estratégico de la finca , destinado a revitalizar su patrimonio histórico . Raquel Collante tuvo el privilegio de asistir a esta esclarecedora presentación , obteniendo valiosos conocimientos sobre el ambicioso proyecto . Según Raquel , aunque en un principio se creía que la torre era de origen árabe , los últimos hallazgos apuntan ahora a pruebas de época romana , lo que añade una nueva capa a la narración histórica .
Durante el acto , la audiencia planteó preguntas que invitaban a la reflexión , incluidas las relativas a la navegabilidad del río Guadarranque hasta Castellar y la posible conexión entre los propietarios de Carteia y los asentados en Almoraima . Estas preguntas surgieron en medio de la diversidad de objetos expuestos en la finca de Almoraima .
Además de las observaciones de Raquel , otras aportaciones salieron a la luz gracias a los esfuerzos de Rafael Camino y el equipo HUM 440 de la Universidad de Cádiz . Dirigido por Darío Bernal , este equipo de dedicados profesores e investigadores realizó un importante descubrimiento : un robusto vertedero de los siglos XVI-XVII que contenía restos de fauna y pescado . Este hallazgo no sólo promete conocimientos sobre dietas históricas , sino que también permite la extracción de polen para reconstruir el ambiente de la época .
Este proyecto desvela una historia fascinante hasta ahora desconocida .
JULIO SERRANO , NATURE AND FREEDOM
On November 30 , 2023 , the presentation of the book about the artist Julio Serrano , written by the researcher José Antonio Pleguezuelos Sánchez , took place in the auditorium of the Unión Deportiva y Cultural Linense . The event , organized by the Ateneo de la Bahía , was attended by a large audience and closed with an emotional tribute to Francisca Serrano , sister of the biographer , who was present in the hall . The Ateneo considers the publication of this book an act of justice towards a very forgotten artist , whose painting offers qualities worthy of study and consideration .
About the painter Julio Serrano ( La Linea , 1929-Paris , 1968 ), the Encyclopedic Illustrated Dictionary of the Province of Cadiz says that " his work is characterized by its avant-garde ". Such a short review is not far off the mark , since the artist from La Linea tried to find new ways of experimentation throughout his short existence , but it seems to us to be out of proportion to his merits .
Born to be an artist , from a very early age he showed his pictorial gifts , accentuated during the decade of the forties with the teachings he received first in La Línea and later at the Central School of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid . In the fifties , in order to satisfy the change of scenery that his delicate health demanded , he set up a studio in San Roque , which eventually became an active cultural center .
Embraced to the neo-figurative painting , his favorite themes are portraits , still life and landscapes , for whose realization he mainly used canvas , oil and palette knife . In the landscapes of the Campo de Gibraltar , through a full connection with nature , the artist finds the calm and peace that his spirit requires .
These landscapes of the peninsular noon are made in visu , in the surroundings of San Roque -Santa Margarita was one of his favorite places- , Guadarranque , Guadacorte , El Chinarral ( Algeciras ) or in Jimera de Líbar , where he enters in communion with Las Artezuelas , idyllic spot of the Guadiaro river famous for its springs . In this opportunity , the impastoed colors are loose and sometimes violent . It seems that the irrepressible Mediterranean light takes hold of the artist , intoxicates his senses and fills the work with plenitude .
After exhibitions in Algeciras and Ceuta , Julio Serrano decides to settle in Paris , where , not without difficulty , he looks for his space , until he settles definitively in Champigny sur Marne . He also travels assiduously to the Vosges , a region where he is happily reunited with nature . In France , the light of his work was tempered and softened , as was his handling of the palette knife , and it was in France that he died suddenly at the age of 39 . We do not know what direction his work would have taken , but what we are sure of is that through nature Julio Serrano felt the free being that his spirit demanded . This artist , whose projection must continue to be defended tirelessly , brought very new accents to the artistic panorama of Campogibraltereño in the fifties .
