SPANISH ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANI- ZATIONS UNITE FOR THE ECOLOGICAL RECOVERY OF LAGUNA DE LA JANDA ON WORLD WETLANDS DAY
World Wetlands Day will be commemorated on Friday , February 2 , under the theme " Wetlands and human well-being ." In honor of this occasion , various organizations , including AEMS-Ríos Con Vida , AGA- DEN-Ecologistas en Acción , Asociación de Amigos de la Laguna de la Janda , Ecologistas en Acción , Fundación Savia , Greenpeace , Iniciativa Natura , Red Andaluza de Nueva Cultura del Agua , and SEO / BirdLife , are organizing a rally on Sunday , February 4 , at the former Laguna de la Janda .
The purpose of the gathering is to call upon the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge to facilitate the establishment of a " Round Table for the Ecological Recovery of the Laguna de la Janda ." The objective is to negotiate the transition towards reduced irrigations and the restoration of publicly owned delimited wetlands , ensuring sustainable use within the environment while safeguarding employment and economic and social profitability .
This meeting will involve representatives from the Junta de Andalusia , the municipality of La Janda , irrigators , and conservation organizations . Last October , the Directorate General of Patrimony of the Andalusian Regional Government concluded its patrimonial investigation , handing over the responsibility for resolving the land ownership dispute in La Janda to the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge .
The organizations involved advocate for a consensual solution through negotiation and governance , emphasizing the creation of the " Mesa por la Recuperación Ecológica de la Laguna de la Janda ." They urge the Ministry to lead the search for consensus and avoid judicialization of the case .
The rally , scheduled for 12:00 on Sunday , February 4 , next to the drainage tunnel of the old lagoon at km 47.1 of the N-340 road , will include the reading of a manifesto . The manifesto will call on the Spanish Government to establish and coordinate the " Bureau for the Ecological Recovery of the Laguna de la Janda ."
