La contaminación química ha “ superado el límite de seguridad para la humanidad ”.
La creciente mezcla de sustancias químicas que saturan el medio ambiente ha superado el “ límite de seguridad para la humanidad ”, según una investigación realizada por un equipo de científicos internacionales .
El estudio , publicado en la revista Environmental Science & Technology , evaluó el impacto de las 350.000 sustancias químicas manufacturadas de uso generalizado en todo el mundo , como plásticos , antibióticos , pesticidas y compuestos industriales .
La investigación concluyó que la contaminación química ha cruzado un “ límite planetario ” y que “ el ritmo al que las sociedades están produciendo y liberando nuevas sustancias químicas y otras entidades novedosas en el medio ambiente no es coherente con mantenerse dentro del espacio operativo seguro para la humanidad ”.
El concepto de los nueve límites planetarios fue concebido por científicos medioambientales en 2009 . Estos límites establecen los umbrales ecológicos dentro de los cuales la humanidad puede sobrevivir con seguridad y seguir prosperando en el futuro . Los límites incluyen el uso del agua dulce , el cambio climático y la pérdida de integridad de la biodiversidad .
En 2015 , los científicos anunciaron que cuatro de los nueve límites ya se han cruzado . Este nuevo estudio significa que la contaminación química ( conocida como nuevas entidades en el mundo científico ) ha aumentado el número de límites cruzados a cinco .
La contaminación por plásticos se destaca en el estudio como una preocupación particularmente alta , debido al amplio impacto y efecto que el plástico tiene en múltiples límites planetarios . De las 350.000 sustancias químicas registradas que se utilizan actualmente , sólo se ha evaluado la seguridad y los posibles efectos a largo plazo de un pequeño número de ellas . Se ha descubierto que muchas sustancias químicas , como los pesticidas , afectan a procesos vitales del sistema terrestre que sustentan la vida y pueden causar graves problemas en los ecosistemas y en la salud humana .
El informe sugiere varias medidas para reducir la producción y el uso de productos químicos , como una normativa más estricta , una evaluación rigurosa y la imposición de límites a la producción y el uso de productos químicos y plásticos .
ANTHONY W PITALUGA : MEMBER OF THE MOST EXCELLENT ORDER OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE ( MBE )
On Friday 1st January 2021 , Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II , awarded Mr Anthony W Pitaluga an MBE . He was appointed to the Order , for services to the History and Culture of Gibraltar , as part of the Queen ’ s 2021 , New Year ’ s Honours List .
The honours system was established by King George V during World War One in 1917 , to honour the efforts of civilians and servicemen in non-combat roles . There are five ranks in total , but three are most common . The MBE is the lesser of the three , after the OBE ( Officer of the Order of the British Empire ) and the CBE ( Commander of the Order of the British Empire ). Appointments to the Order , are handed out twice a year — in the Queen ’ s New Year and Birthday Honours Lists respectively .
Soon after appointment , recipients are invited to an investiture , a special ceremony in which honours awards are presented by a member of the Royal Family . However , due to pandemic delays the investiture ceremony did not take place until December 2021 , nearly one calendar year later .
Thirty Investitures are normally held each year : one at the Palace of Holyrood in Edinburgh , and the remainder at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle . If the Queen is unable to conduct an Investiture herself , she will be represented by another Member of the Royal Family .
Anthony ’ s Investiture took place at the Waterloo Chamber , Windsor Castle , held by The Prince of Wales , on Wednesday , 8th December 2021 , at 11.00 am . The Officers on duty were the Lord Chamberlain , the Master of the Household to The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall , the Comptroller Lord Chamberlain ’ s Office , the Equerry in Waiting , and the Secretary Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood . On duty on the dais were two Gurkha Orderly Officers , a tradition begun in 1876 by Queen Victoria , and a detachment of the Queen ’ s Body Guard of the Yeoman of the Guard , created in
