by many people in their mid-twenties / early thirties who have said that it is a real pity that we did not go ahead with the project. But I am older, and can understand the other side, I am used to driving a car and if somebody tells me to stop driving and start cycling, I can see why some might say‘ what is this?’ But hopefully in the future, perhaps in 5 to 7 years’ time, the younger generations will say‘ yes, we want this now!’ and maybe someone will say‘ who was that Minister for Transport who had that good idea? Now we can go ahead with it’. I like to think that is how this project will be looked back on, but until then I will continue promoting sustainable modes of transport and trying to change people’ s mindsets. I hope that when the electric buses are introduced people will respond to them well and see that there is a cleaner and greener way to travel with less noise. I have trialled these buses and they are absolutely excellent; they are the future of public transport in Gibraltar. I am very much looking forward to more buses arriving some time next year and then hopefully replacing the full fleet over the next 4-5 years.

Creo que las generaciones más jóvenes son más abiertas y muchas personas en la veintena y la treintena me han parado en la calle para decirme que es una pena que no siguiéramos adelante con el proyecto. Pero soy mayor y puedo entender a la otra parte. Estoy acostumbrado a conducir y si alguien me dice que empiece a usar la bici o a caminar entiendo la postura de quien lo interprete con sorpresa. Pero quizás en el futuro, entre 5 y 7 años vista, las generaciones más jóvenes dirán que sí y que quieren el cambio. Y quizás alguien se pregunte quién fue el ministro de Transporte que tuvo la idea. Me gusta pensar que el proyecto de mirará con retrospectiva, pero asta entonces seguiré promoviendo modelos de transporte sostenible e intentando cambiar la mentalidad general. Confío en que cuando incorporemos los autobuses eléctricos la ciudadanía responderá de forma positiva y verá que constituyen una forma más limpia y ecológica de viajar. He probado estos vehículos y son absolutamente maravillosos: el futuro del transporte público en Gibraltar. Espero que los tengamos en algún momento del año próximo y que podamos reemplazar la
