Newer buses may also entice people to try them out and perhaps change the way that they do things . Could you tell us more about the new all electric post office fleet ?
There are 13 fully electric vehicles in total , so the entire fleet has been replaced . This means that we are the first public post office in the world to have a fully electric fleet which we are delighted about . This is the way forward ; we will now receive our mail pollution free . I hope this is the start of people seeing that we should all be looking at buying electric cars , I know it can be difficult at the moment , but the technology is constantly changing , and a lot of the top manufacturers are now bringing out very good electric vehicles and we would like to encourage that . We are looking at perhaps increasing the financial incentive for people to buy electric cars and we will be rolling out charging stations across Gibraltar so that it is available to people who previously could buy an electric car but had nowhere to charge it and hopefully that will be done during the next 18 – 24 months . What immediate plans do you have for 2021 to tackle Gibraltar ' s growing traffic problems .
I think we need to get out there and have some form of campaign to inform people that it is not that difficult leave your car at home . What I have learnt from Line Wall Road is that people still want to use their cars and you can ’ t take that away from them , I think it is clear that our community is not ready to leave their cars behind and I have always said that we have to respect what the people want and if people want to use their cars it is their prerogative to do so . We will continue campaigning to the public for them to leave their cars at home and like I have said , when the new electric buses come in , people may want to make that change . Hopefully we can look at cycling lanes , the plan was for a segregated cycle lane along Line Wall Road but unfortunately that is not going to happen now , but we may be able to do something else . Hay un total de 13 vehículos de propulsión eléctrica , de modo que toda la flota ha sido reemplazada . Ello nos convierte en la única oficina postal del mundo en contar con una flota cien por cien eléctrica . Y este es el camino . A partir de ahora recibiremos los envíos postales sin causar contaminación . Confío en que ello propicie que los ciudadanos empiecen a ver que podemos todos contemplar la compra y uso de vehículos eléctricos . Reconozco que es complicado de momento , pero la tecnología cambia de forma permanente y muchos de los productores principales de vehículos están sacando modelos muy atractivos al mercado . Estamos estudiando la introducción de ayuda incentivos financieros para que los ciudadanos adquieran vehículos eléctricos y dispondremos estaciones de carga por todo Gibraltar para facilitar el acceso a las mismas de quienes compraron un coche de este tipo y tenía dificultades para cargarlo . Esperamos hacer todo esto entre los próximos 18 y 24 meses . ¿ Cuáles son los planes a corto plazo para abordar los crecientes problemas de tráfico en Gibraltar ?
Considero que tenemos que propulsar algún tipo de campaña informativa insistiendo en que no es tan difícil dejar el coche en casa . Lo que he aprendido de la experiencia de Line Wall Road es que los ciudadanos aún quieren coger el coche y es difícil acabar con ese hábito . Creo que ha quedado claro que nuestra comunidad aún no está preparada para dejar los coches areás y tenemos que respetar que los ciudadanos hagan lo que quieren . Seguiremos haciendo campaña para revertir esta situación y , como dije antes , la incorporación de los nuevos autobuses puede empezar a propiciar el cambio . También está la esperanza depositada en los carriles bici y aunque el plan de segregar Line Wall Road se abortó , espero que podamos hacer algo diferente . Tengo previsto también la posibilidad de dar a nuestras carreteras un uso mixto .
