knackered, wobbly legged but feeling rewarded, we
jumped on a bus to head home.
Depending on how often and how long you stop
for, the whole walk can take a few hours and is ideal
for tourists who want to experience Gibraltar’s na-
tural gems as well as some of Gibraltar’s military
heritage. But if you’re short on time, it’s still easy to
enjoy parts of the Nature Reserve without having to
complete the whole trail by opting to take the Cable
Car up and starting the route at the Charles V Wall.
Living here, I don’t go up the Rock as often as I
should, especially considering the lack of natural
outdoor spaces in the town area. With all that the
Nature Reserve has to offer; unique nature, history
and stunning views, these trails are a great way to
get to know Gibraltar for the first time. And for those
of us living here, a way to renew our appreciation for
our local heritage and beautiful landscapes.

De vuelta a un camino suave, aunque con piernas
temblorosas, tras cruzar el largo tramo de sendero
irregular, caminamos suavemente hacia el norte
hacia Tovey Battery y luego a Princess Caroline´s
Battery, donde finalmente vimos a algunos monos
posando para la multitud de turistas con un espec-
tacular telón de fondo de las vistas hacia España.
La ruta continúa cuesta abajo más allá de la en-
trada de los túneles de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y
la Gran Exposición de Asedio, terminando por el Cas-
tillo, donde debo admitir que agotado, con piernas
temblorosas, pero sintiéndome recompensado, nos
subimos a un autobús para volver a casa.
Dependiendo de la frecuencia y las paradas, todo
el paseo puede tomar unas horas y es ideal para los
turistas que quieren experimentar las joyas natura-
les de Gibraltar, así como parte del patrimonio mili-
tar gibraltareño. Pero si tienes poco tiempo, también
es fácil disfrutar de partes de la Reserva Natural sin
tener que completar todo el sendero, optando por
tomar el teleférico y comenzar la ruta en el Muro
de Carlos V.
Viviendo aquí, no subo a la roca tan a menudo
como debería, especialmente teniendo en cuenta la
falta de espacios naturales al aire libre en el área de
la ciudad. Con todo lo que la Reserva Natural tiene
para ofrecer; naturaleza única, historia y vistas im-
presionantes, estos senderos son una gran fórmula
para conocer Gibraltar por primera vez. Y para los
que vivimos aquí, una forma de renovar nuestra que-
rencia por nuestro patrimonio local y nuestros her-
mosos paisajes.
