users from most vulnerable to least vulnerable are : pedestrians , cyclists , and other categories of motor vehicles , buses , and heavy goods vehicles .
Further changes will include clarifying the existing rules on pedestrian priority on pavements . Currently , pedestrians only have priority over other road users if they have already begun to cross a junction . In addition to the existing rules , the proposals would give pedestrians priority over other road users at junctions where pedestrians are waiting to cross , even if these locations may not be at the traditional crossing areas .
The revised Highway Code will now also issue guidance on safe speed and passing distances when overtaking more vulnerable road users , as per new regulations to protect cyclists .
In a press release , the Government continued . “ Many of the rules in the code are legal requirements and you may be fined if you are found to be in breach of them . Failure to comply with any of the other rules will not , in itself , cause a person to be prosecuted , but the Highway Code may be used in evidence in any court proceedings under the Traffic
Act and Regulations to establish liability . In part , the Highway Code may also serve to advise on best and safe practices for all road users . It is therefore advisable for all road users to re-acquaint themselves with the code and the changes therein ”.
El nuevo Código de Circulación revisado protege a los usuarios más vulnerables de la carretera
Tras la actualización del Código de Circulación del Reino Unido en septiembre , el Gobierno ha actualizado y revisado el Código de Circulación de Gibraltar para garantizar la compatibilidad con las leyes locales y los consejos de seguridad vial actuales .
El objetivo del Código de Circulación es promover la seguridad vial y también los conceptos actuales de un sistema de transporte saludable , sostenible y eficiente , ya sea a pie , en bicicleta , en transporte público o en coche privado . El código se aplica a Gibraltar , pero también se centra en las señales de tráfico , las situaciones viales y los consejos que pueden no ser relevantes a nivel local pero que son aplicables cuando se conduce fuera de Gibraltar .
