La ciudad de las mujeres, El sagrado corazón de Arequipa.

The water runs happily between the jars where the laundry is washed. The sisters sing and, although it is forbidden, the mother superior does not silence them. They are such young novices and their voices are so sweet... besides, they are the choir songs, it’ s good that they are going through them. However, when the Prioress crosses the corner in the direction of Burgos Street, the choir singing and composure end. While playing in the water, the girls giggle and behave erratically. They are unaware that Mother Superior is aware of their lack of restraint, but what can she say to them when even her own daughter is enjoying herself? She will use punishment later, at choir practice, to stop the outbursts... and those in the laundry room.

El agua corre alegre entre las tinajas donde se lava la ropa. Las hermanas cantan y, aunque está prohibido, la madre superiora no les hace callar. Son novicias tan jóvenes y sus voces tan dulces … además son las canciones del coro, está bien que las repasen. No obstante las canciones del coro y la compostura cesan cuando la Priora gira la esquina en dirección a calle Burgos. Las chicas ríen y se alborotan, es fácil dejarse llevar al jugar con el agua. Lo que no saben ellas es que la Madre Superiora está al tanto de su falta de contención, pero qué les va a decir si hasta su propia hija se está divirtiendo. Más tarde, durante los ensayos del coro administrará disciplina para corregir las salidas de tono … y las del lavadero.
De paso por la plaza de la fuente se asoma a la cocina. Sor Angustias y otras veinte están a esas horas en pleno apogeo, fogones al máximo. A finales de año habrá que volver a deshollinar, anota mentalmente, mientras la otra parte de su cerebro se deleita con el olor a chupe de camarón, a maíz tostado para moler y a ají de habas.
