The residents will be offered the opportunity to engage in maintaining the micro-farm , collecting and packaging the produce to be supplied to local restaurants and shops whilst earning a living wage in return with the reminder of any profit gained dedicated to the maintenance of the building ’ s premises . The ability to gain income will be an opportunity offered to its residents and not a prerequisite to receiving assistance in a form of accommodation or other forms of support . Other forms of paid work will also be gradually introduced alongside training and educational opportunities that will be offered as part of the support structure available to the residents within the Vita Nova Residence . This approach is aimed at assisting the residents in acquiring new trades / professions , gaining a recent employment history and earning a living wage , thus supporting their self-efficiency and assisting them in gaining and / or returning to employment despite the unfortunate circumstances they found themselves in . This aforementioned approach will also in turn offer locally grown produce sold locally in support of the Buy Local initiative introduced by the Government , GFSB and the Chamber of Commerce .
The sleeping quarters had been designed to accommodate , within a small physical footprint , a sleeping space , a study space and individual bathroom facilities to ensure privacy . Although majority of the residential units had been designed for single individuals in response to the immediate , known need for accommodation , due to the flexible modular interior design , the spaces can be relatively easily reconfigured to accommodate a couple or a small family , although understandably so , the accommodation is less suitable to cater for family units . This step towards addressing homelessness locally is a necessity and although utopian solutions are difficult to develop , the proposal seeks to respond to the urgent need identified , whist delivering a build that offers a dignified return to accommodation and , where possible work , whilst incorporating a variety of SDGs . Los residentes tendrán la oportunidad de participar en el mantenimiento de la micro granja , recogiendo y envasando los productos que serán suministrados a restaurantes y tiendas locales en tanto se garantizan a cambio un salario y el recordatorio de que todo el beneficio será invertido en el mantenimiento de las instalaciones del edificio . La posibilidad de disfrutar de ingresos constituirá una gran oportunidad para los residentes pero no un requisito para acceder a la ayuda en forma de alojamiento u otros tipos de apoyo . También se introducirán de forma gradual otras formas de trabajo remunerado además de las oportunidades formativas y educacionales que serán ofrecidas como parte de la estructura de apoyo de Vita Nova Residence . Este enfoque pretende ayudar a los residentes en la adquisición de herramientas laborales , anotándose la experiencia en sus currículums así como disfrutando de un salario a la vez que respaldan su autosuficiencia y ganan crédito para el retorno a una situación de empleo a pesar de las desafortunadas circunstancias en las que se encontraron . El citado enfoque ofrecerá a cambio productos naturales cultivados localmente para apoyar la iniciativa Buy Local introducida por el Gobierno , la Federación de Pequeños Empresarios y la Cámara de Comercio .
