After so much struggle, effort, survival and of course success, have you finally reached what was once an unimaginable business maturity?
It sounds like a cliché, but yes that ' s how it is Juanjo. When Ornitour was created in September 1994, in the midst of the economic crisis, we were foolish and had no prior training in business, and as they say now, we embarked on a project that was exciting and innovative. To work on something that we like, promote the ornithological values of the Strait of Gibraltar and open a new pathway for the conservation of birds and their habitats. In summary, our goals, aside from economic, were similar to those of the Ornithological Group of the Strait, of which we were and still are partners of. It wasn’ t until two years after the creation of Ornitour, that we had a mature vision and a team of partners that could kickstart the company. We quickly realised that there were three disadvantages to being the first company in Spain to develop ornithological tourism for tourists from other countries; We were young, not British, and we also lacked reputation. Then, as you said Juanjo, came years of struggle, effort, survival and then success. It was not until the 2008 economic crisis and overcoming it that we felt that Ornitour had reached maturity as a company. And it wasn’ t quite that we thought that business maturity was unachievable, because we did think that one day it would come. So that our readers know who you are, what is Ornitour and what have been your biggest achievements?
Ornitour s. l. Servicios Integrales en Medio Ambiente, is an environmental consulting firm managed by David Barros and David Ríos, who for ten years prior to the creation of the company, shared ideas and a desire to work together with other colleagues from the Ornithological Group of the Strait, until the time came to take the leap into this unique business adventure. Since then, we have managed to grow and the range of activities achieved has been very diverse and always within the sphere of the environment; ornithological tourism, technical and research assistance, training courses, publications, environmental education, environmental impact studies, environmental surveillance for wind farms and engineering works, environmental improvements, public facilities, signs and participation with stands
¿ Después de tanta lucha, esfuerzo, supervivencia y por supuesto éxito, habéis llegado por fin a una impensable madurez empresarial?
Suena a tópico pero así es Juanjo, cuando se creó Ornitour en septiembre de 1994, en plena crisis económica, éramos unos insensatos, que sin tener una preparación previa en empresariales, nos embarcamos en un proyecto más que ilusionante e innovador como se dice ahora. Trabajar en aquello que nos gusta, divulgar los valores ornitológicos del Estrecho de Gibraltar y abrir una nueva vía en la conservación de las aves y sus hábitats. En definitiva, además del económico, objetivos parecidos a los del Grupo Ornitológico del Estrecho del que éramos y seguimos siendo socios. Hasta dos años después de la creación de Ornitour, no tuvimos madurada la idea y el equipo de socios para poner en marcha la empresa. Rápido nos dimos cuenta que teníamos tres desventajas para ser la primera empresa en España en desarrollar el turismo ornitológico con turistas de otros países; éramos jóvenes y no británicos, además nos faltaba prestigio. Después vino lo que tú dices Juanjo; años de lucha, esfuerzo, supervivencia y éxito. Hasta que no llegó la crisis económica de 2008 y la superación de ésta, no nos sentimos en Ornitour que habíamos alcanzado una madurez como empresa. Bueno lo de impensable madurez empresarial, no es del todo así, porque si lo pensábamos que algún día ésta nos llegaría.
