PONTEVEDRA VISIT . EUROPE ’ S CAR FREE CITY
The OTWO team embarked on a instructive journey to Pontevedra from the 14 th to the 16 th of March , driven by their eagerness to explore the dynamics of car-free cities . Through proactive engagement with the Mayor ' s office , they secured a valuable interview to delve into Pontevedra ' s evolution into car-free . To enrich their experience , they invited mobility experts José Antonio Duarte Sastre and Ángel Luis Duarte Sastre from Motricity , as well as former transport minister Paul Balban , to lend their insights garnered from our area ’ s past challenges .
During their insightful visit , the team engaged with a diverse array of key stakeholders , including Pedro Figueroa from the Pontevedra Observatory . The Observatory provides crucial statistical analyses illuminating the advancements made in various sectors during this transition . Additionally , they interacted with representatives from Pedeladas , a local cycling advocacy organization , gaining invaluable perspectives on the pedestrianization initiative from the lens of cyclists .
A visit to the Mayor ' s office in Tomiño further enriched their understanding , where they met with Uxío Benítez Fernández , the first deputy mayor and councilor for finance , planning , strategy , and urban action . With his extensive tenure since 2007 , Fernández has spearheaded numerous transformative projects benefiting the community .

Anton Prieto , responsible for public relations since Pontevedra ' s pivotal pedestrianization initiatives in 1999 . Their journey culminated in a meeting with Mayor Miguel Anxo Fernández Lores , where they had the opportunity to gather profound insights into the city ' s transformation . Additionally , they received a comprehensive explanation of the consequences and benefits of these changes from Daniel Macenlle , Director General of Citizen Protection .
