never understood this territorial division . In fact , in the Wayuunaiki language , Wajiira means “ Our Land ”. Today the Wayuu have dual nationality and free transit between the two countries that artificially divide their home .
Well , the risky desert opens before Fair Traveler as a pictorial world of friendly and hospitable people , where women dress in bright colors , men know the sea and children like foreign novelties . In this culture , women are leaders who guide and organize the community . They are the bearers of the oral transmission of their traditions and beliefs . They also play the role of healers , since they are considered endowed with a supernatural power to intercede with the spirits of disease and misfortune . Men , on the other hand , are considered descendants of great warriors . Nowadays they are recognized as great carpenters and persist in the construction of traditional wooden boats . A trade that during the last decades tends to disappear , which , fortunately , worries the Cultural Heritage Research Center ( CIPAC ) of the Externado University of Colombia and especially its study group of Liquid Territories , which arose as a beautiful motivation on the part of the students of Archaeology of the Faculty of Studies of Cultural Heritage . Under the coordination of Professors Carlos del Cairo Hurtado and Carla Riera Andreu , the group has launched since 2018 a project on Patterns of Navigability , Accidentality and Sinkage in the Colombian Caribbean between the sixteenth and twentieth centuries . Through this initiative , work is being done on the development of an underwater heritage inventory , as well as on the determination of measures for the management and protection of these resources for the benefit of the communities that coexist with them . Under the premise of knowing in order to protect , the inhabitants of La Guajira are involved from the beginning , since it is considered that they are the ones who really safeguard in their daily lives those elements that bear witness to pre-Hispanic , colonial , republican and contemporary activities . In addition , the recently constituted Colombia Anfibia Foundation wants to go a step further in the creation of models and tools that guarantee the conservation of the underwater culture hand in hand with the local population that surrounds and , of course , enriches this type of contexts . racteriza por ser la más árida de toda Colombia . Así y todo , esta región agreste fue repartida entre Colombia y Venezuela durante la época de las independencias , si bien los pueblos indígenas nunca entendieron esta división territorial . De hecho en idioma wayuunaiki , Wajiira significa « Nuestra Tierra ». En la actualidad los Wayuu tienen doble nacionalidad y tránsito libre entre los dos países que dividen artificialmente su hogar .
Pues bien , el arriesgado desierto se abre ante Viajante como un mundo pictórico de gente amable y hospitalaria , donde las mujeres visten de vivos colores , los hombres conocen la mar y los niños gustan de las novedades extranjeras . En esta cultura las mujeres son líderes que orientan y organizan la comunidad . Son portadoras de la transmisión oral de sus tradiciones y creencias . Desempeñan además el rol de sanadoras , ya que se las considera dotadas de un poder sobrenatural para intermediar con los espíritus de la enfermedad y la desgracia . Los hombres por su parte son considerados descendientes de grandes guerreros . En la actualidad son reconocidos como grandes carpinteros de ribera y persisten en la construcción de embarcaciones tradicionales de madera . Un oficio que durante las últimas décadas tiende a la desaparición , lo que , por suerte , preocupa al Centro de Investigación del Patrimonio Cultural ( CIPAC ) de la Universidad Externado de Colombia y en especial a su grupo de estudio de Territorios Líquidos , el cual surgió como una bella motivación por parte de los estudiantes de Arqueología de la Facultad de Estudios del Patrimonio Cultural . Bajo la coordinación de los profesores Carlos del Cairo Hurtado y Carla Riera Andreu , el grupo ha puesto en marcha desde 2018 un proyecto sobre Patrones de Navegabilidad , Accidentalidad y Hundimientos en el Caribe colombiano entre los siglos XVI-XX . Mediante esta iniciativa se trabaja en la elaboración de un inventario patrimonial subacuático , así como en la determinación de las medidas de manejo y protección de dichos recursos en beneficio de las comunidades que conviven con ellos . Bajo la premisa de conocer para proteger , se involucra desde el comienzo a los habitantes de La Guajira pues se considera que son ellos quienes realmente salvaguardan en su vivir diario aquellos elementos testigo de las actividades prehispánicas , coloniales , republicanas y contempo-
