Fortress of Fortresses
A millennia of military history can be witnessed
almost everywhere you turn in Gibraltar, allowing
visitors to fully immerse themselves into a fortress
that encapsulates numerous bygone eras of military
defence.
These sights are everywhere, from Rosia Bay to
Europa, Line Wall to the Grand Bastion, yet when
you live here their presence is the very fabric of the
town and it is easy to forget that Gibraltar is one of
the most fortified places in the world.
Approaching the north of the town on foot, you
are immediately met by towering walls and battle-
ments. Due to the northern approach being the ea-
siest side to access, the north front was arguably the
most important of Gibraltar’s fortifications.
Sadly, a lot of these structures became obsolete
and have been left unused since the end of WWII.

Un milenio de historia militar se puede presenciar
casi en cada uno de los lugares que recorras en Gi-
braltar, lo que permite a los visitantes sumergirse por
completo en una fortaleza que encierra numerosas
épocas pasadas de defensa militar.
Estos monumentos, están en todas partes. Desde
Rosia Bay hasta Punta Europa, desde Line Wall hasta el
Grand Bastion. Pero, cuando vives aquí, su presencia es
la trama de la ciudad y no es fácil olvidar que Gibraltar,
es uno de los lugares más fortificados del mundo.
Al acercarse a pie al norte de la ciudad, de in-
mediato, se encontrará con altos muros y almenas.
Dado que el acceso al norte es el flanco de más fácil
acceso, dicho frente, fue posiblemente considerada
la más importante de las fortificaciones de Gibraltar.
Tristemente, muchas de estas estructuras se vol-
vieron obsoletas y no se han utilizado desde el final
