A note from the editor Vanessa Byrne / Managing Director

Happy New Year ! How about for the year 2022 we make a resolution and keep it ! Focus on ourselves , improve on our self-care and mental health .
Helping and caring for our environment and in turn be more considerate for those around us . Feels good to do good .
Do not fall into the day-to-day routine rush and realize it is NOT cool to be stressed . Life is happier when we slow down and appreciate what we have around . Realize that less is more , materialistic items mean nothing when not shared with our loved ones . Make memories instead of collecting things .
If we can take anything from these past two years , it is that life is unpredictable . Learn from these difficult moments ; grow and embrace with maximum positivity what life brings you .
This month we feature two very alarming articles focused on effects we could experience locally due to the climate catastrophe .
Ryan Robba ’ s article ( page 46 ) shares information on the effects climate change will have in Gibraltar , a real eye opener . Ryan is an environmental consultant and provides real life challenges that will be faced if , and unfortunately when , the earth ’ s temperature increases . A must read .
COAMBA ’ s contribution also highlights the challenges we face due to climate change with Climate migrations , unfortunately already taking place in many areas around the world . This article also highlights main issues we will face locally due to the climate catastrophe and what we should expect to experience as the world warms up , page 56 .
Both these articles really bring to life what we will be facing in a very close future . It will indeed bring challenging times however all is not dire . We are a species that have evolved and adapted in many ways and have no doubt ; we will overcome this also and we will be better individuals , accepting that we each have to take responsibility for the planet we share . Accepting that our planet is not a limitless source of materials to feed out of control expectations and arrogant selfish goals . But rather a beautifully abundant and balanced source of sustenance to nurture us and future generations .
There are many ways we can change in our day to day lives that would help lessen the damage we are causing . Lessen our carbon footprint , reduce are dependency on single use plastic , be more conscious about what we do to help our world . As explained on Campbell Youngs article – The Insect Apocalypse ( page 34 ). Our actions have a long-lasting effect on other species , by being more aware and more considerate we can make incredible improvements .
Recycle and reuse items . We are privileged to have information just at our fingertips , why not use this to educate ourselves on how we can adapt to help lower our footprint . Check out The Nautilus Projects simple tips on page 32 .
Perhaps try a Meat Free day a week or try going full on vegan for January . Expand your diet , try new dishes . Our monthly Nosha ’ s Corner column provides meat free ideas or perhaps check out Veganuary if you want to make a real change . They are a support group that help and encourage people to try veganism , for more info go to page 54 .
Regardless of what you get up to this year , new goals , new plans , new experiences , enjoy every moment . Sure , this is a challenging time . I believe we can endure , I believe we will succeed and we will better for this – I cannot wait , truly exciting times ahead .
Wishing you all the best years ahead . Thank you all once again for your continued support .
Peace and love to all .
