RCOT and CSP launch new principles for practice-based learning
The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy ( CSP ) and RCOT have worked together to produce a set of seven principles for practice-based learning , which were launched on 20 October 2022 .
The principles can be applied by everyone involved in practice-based learning , including students and apprentices , university representatives , practice educators , service leads , business owners and many more .
Tamsin Baird , a CSP Education Officer , and Carolyn Hay , RCOT ’ s Pre-registration Education Manager , told OTnews : ‘ Working together makes sense , it recognises the similarities in our delivery of pre-registration programmes , specifically placements .
‘ This is echoed in the principles , which have a strong theme of collaboration and working together . We see the principles as a reference point for everyone involved in supporting the education of our pre-registration students and apprentices .’
They added : ‘ As we ’ ve progressed in developing the principles , we have ideas of other opportunities to support all those involved in placement delivery and are keen to continue to collaborate to support this priority topic .’
The principles are for everyone across the UK , stemming from RCOT ’ s and CSP ’ s collaboration
As we ’ ve progressed in developing the principles , we have ideas of other opportunities to support all those involved in placement delivery and are keen to continue to collaborate to support this priority topic .”

RCOT asks new Prime Minister to make health and social care a key priority
On 24 October , RCOT asked the new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to make health and social care a key priority .
The cost-of-living crisis is worsening pressures on health and social care systems that are still dealing with COVID-19 and Long Covid . It ’ s exacerbating the huge demand for rehabilitation services and severe shortages in the health and social care workforce .
Promises to reform social care and to ‘ level up ’ have not yet been fulfilled . Social care has not received the increase in resources required to provide care when and where it ’ s needed . The health disparities white paper has also been delayed .
RCOT calls on Mr Sunak to tackle five crucial areas to make a positive difference to health and social care : challenge the cost-of-living crisis ; recruit and retain the health and social care workforce ; reduce the pressures on community-based health ; ensure that children and young people get the therapy support they need ; and develop solutions to overcome rampant health inequalities .
RCOT previously wrote to Mr Sunak as a candidate for Prime Minister and the professional body will continue to engage with him as he sets out his new cabinet and priorities for health and social care . As healthcare is devolved , RCOT will also be reiterating all these calls with the governments of Wales , Scotland and Northern Ireland .
