Military rehabilitation

Moving forward
The mTBI Vestibular Service will continue to raise awareness of the conditions and importance of early intervention . The service plans to deliver regular teaching ‘ roadshows ’ across the UK ’ s military units , with the aim to increase the recognition of mTBIs and ensure that individuals receive timely support and a referral into DMRC Stanford Hall .
The service also plans to engage in research to help build the evidence base in this area and progress treatment accordingly .

Key messages
Mild traumatic brain injury ( mTBI ) is a common injury seen within the UK military population . Although the majority of people recover well within three months , there remains a proportion of people who experience symptoms beyond this point ( post-concussion syndrome ).
Recognising a possible mTBI , providing reassurance and referring to the appropriate service in a timely manner will help to maximise recovery for these individuals .
