New elearning about occupational therapy in neonatal care
Health Education England ( HEE ) has released a new elearning programme , AHPs in Neonatal Care , which RCOT helped to produce .
If you ’ re new to working in neonatal care or thinking about being an occupational therapist in this area , this elearning is for you .
You ’ ll find two sessions about the role , scope and practice of occupational therapy and a workbook to support you to expand and apply your learning . The introduction module will show you how allied health professionals ( AHPs ) work together within neonatal care .
RCOT ’ s Professional Adviser Dr Sally Payne and members of the RCOT Specialist Section – Children , Young People and Families produced the evidence-based occupational therapy content with HEE .
They worked with a family who received neonatal care to make sure the content reflected their views and priorities for occupational therapy in neonatal care .
Neonatal care is a growing area of occupational therapy practice with a specific skillset . Occupational therpists help babies by providing individualised care and promoting the best sensory environment for brain development .
They also support their families in their caring roles within the hospital setting and when they bring their baby home .
If you have an NHS email or OpenAthens account , you can access the elearning programme for free via the HEE website https :// bit . ly / 3M8CdJ7 . This elearning is available for occupational therapists across the UK .
Thank you to those who helped produce the occupational therapy content : Amanda Clifford , Alice Gair , Emily Hills , Deanna Gibbs and Amanda Lawes from RCOT SS – Children , Young People and Families ; Candice and Micah Hampson and their baby Holly ; Dr Sally Payne , Professional Adviser – Children , Young People and Families .
