Planning for a successful project placement

During the pandemic , a group of occupational therapy students engaged in a new online research placement . Here they focus on the key factors that made it a success .

R etirement is a major transition in people ’ s lives and as the population ages it is fast becoming an issue requiring greater focus and input from occupational therapists .

With this in mind , we are a group of six occupational therapy students from Glasgow Caledonian University and during the COVID-19 pandemic we engaged in a new online research placement , developing an occupational therapy intervention – ‘ The W2R Manual ’ – to support people in the transition from work to retirement .
Eagers et al ( 2018 ) described retirement as a complex and major life event that encompasses multiple influential issues , from social and economic support to financial and environmental factors . It provides a valuable opportunity for health promotion to facilitate healthy ageing .
